Prayer For The Innocent

LIFE & LOVE · Released 26 July 2021

Lyrics

My God of the moment, benevolent One Forget what I’ve said please, forgive what I’ve done. Wound me, entomb me in the webs I have spun but don’t take it out on the innocent one…. ….I am as unworthy as I am in need of what I’ve forsaken in thought and in deed. It’s not for myself but another I plead… …cut me to ribbons, just don’t let him bleed.

My God of the moment, benevolent One Forget what I’ve said please, forgive what I’ve done Give happy ending to what you’ve begun Just don’t take it out on the innocent ones…. …I am as unworthy as I am in need Of what I’ve forsaken in thought and in deed. It’s not for myself but for others I plead… …cut me to ribbons, just don’t let them bleed. Please Answer this prayer for the innocent ones (cut me to ribbons, just don’t let them bleed) Answer this prayer for the innocent ones

About the song

I wrote this watching my infant son sleeping, absorbed in how perfect, pure and as yet unaffected by the world he was. I found myself praying for his protection, overcome by the feeling of how unjust it would be for the innocent ones, like him, to pay for the sins of their fathers or the mistakes of others who came before them.
